28th Annual Babies Heart Fund Gala

Overview

March 5, 2015 to March 5, 2015

The 28th Annual Babies Heart Fund Gala was held at The Pierre on March 5, 2015. This year we honored Dr. Linda Addonizio, Director of the Program for Pediatric Cardiomyopathy Heart Failure and Transplantation. Bill Evans, Senior Meteorologist at WABC-TV served as Master of Ceremonies. More than 400 people were in attendance, and thanks to a successful silent auction and our first ever balloon raise, we were able to raise over half a million dollars.

Dr. Addonizio was instrumental in the development of the pediatric heart transplant program at Columbia, where the first successful heart transplant on a child was performed in 1984. Today, approximately 25 pediatric heart transplants are performed each year, more than any other medical center in the country, with an impressive 90 percent success rate. She directs a medical team who treats children in end-stage heart failure, coordinating all aspects of care, from the screening process, to post-transplant education for families. She finds joy in caring for children and considers them part of her family.
